I'm getting excited for Christmas, which is good, as it's coming very soon!
I'm heading out of town tomorrow morning, going to the farm for the weekend and celebrations with Dad's side of the family, then we're bring Grandma back with us on Sunday for Christmas proper. So I'll see you all in a few days!
And I haven't sent out cards yet--if anyone else wants one, leave your address on the previous post and I will be very happy to send a card in your direction. (Co, I'm looking at you!) Even if I already have your address I might forget, so comment away!

I was going to post this a few days ago, but we've been without power since Monday night--the ice storm hit much of Kansas, but Riley County seems to have been some of the worst hit. Luckily, we're on propane and we have a woodstove and an energy effecient passive solar home, so we still have hot showers and can cook on the stovetop. It's just dark, and we're running out of lamp oil. We're in Kansas City tonight, and it's quite a nice change to have electricity.
Anyway, on to the point of this post--Christmas cards! Comments are screened, so leave your address if you'd like one. I didn't get them sent out last year, so I'm excited to use all my pretty cards. Some of them are even in Spanish!

![]() A little spicy and a little sweet, anyone would like to be lost in the woods with you. |
And in other news, I'm almost completely finished with Christmas shopping! That never happens, I don't know what's gotten into me this year. Part of it is that we had Christmas with Mom's side of the family over Thanksgiving. My brother (the one who will graduate college this year) is leaving in a week for Botswana where he will spend the entire Christmas break visiting, helping, and proposing to his girlfriend. (!!!!!) So I already gave him his present. He and I went in together on Mom's Christmas present, so she already has that. My other brother wanted an electric razor, and I was able to find one the should fit what he wants for $30. That's a little more than I usually spend, but his birthday is in mid-January, so I'll probably just spend less there and get him something for his new car (which he is very excited about--it's a 1997 Mustang). And Dad's books are ordered, so I just need to finish Mom's birthday (she was born on Christmas).

I've only watched a few episodes of season 1 New Who, but I have enough fans on my flist to be able to enjoy this quiz. It seems to be a pretty likely scenario, too.

Um, hi--I'm not dead! I promised
castaly that I'd update by Monday. It isn't technically Monday anymore, but I haven't gone to bed yet, so I'm counting it. I didn't actually mean to go four months without updating, I just don't have nearly as much computer time here at home--we live in the country, and can't get anything other than dial-up, which means my online time is very slow and mostly at night.
Last time I updated, I was just about to move home and start my new job as a children's librarian. I'm starting to feel settled now, and I really love it. I had missed working in a library, and I didn't realize how much until I was back in one. And youth services in a public library really is where I want to be--it's nice to have that confirmed in practice.
Most of the time when I'm not at work has been spent readjusting to living at home and trying to rest and recuperate from the last six years of stress and lack of sleep. Sometimes I'm closer to being caught up than others--it tends to go in cycles.
Also cyclical are my depression and anxiety. For a while after I got home I was just high on adrenaline and the excitement of returning to Kansas, but it's back to being difficult. I do finally have insurance now, though, so I'm able to keep filling my prescriptions. The next step is to find some sort of counselor here. I have a friend who is a counselor, actually, but I think I am too close to her to see her professionally. However, we're meeting tomorrow out at Konza Prairie for a ramble and an update, and hopefully she can recommend her. She's one of the most encouraging people I know, so I'm looking forward to spending time with her.
Thank you for all the nudges, by the way. It's nice to know that people are thinking of me.
*hugs flist*
I'm going to try to update more regularly, but I don't want to make promises I can't keep, so I won't make some grand schedule--I don't need more self-imposed guilt about not meeting my own standards (I have plenty of that already!).

I've been nudged twice, so I suppose I should update, huh? Things in my life have actually been improving lately. My Dad's is arriving in a little over an hour, and tomorrow after church and visiting with friends we'll get in my car and move me home. I'm so very ready to be home.
And waiting for me there is a job! I'm not finished with my degree yet, but I've managed to actually accomplish some things in my classes, so I'm on my way again, and I'll be gaining my experience for my resume as the job is in the children's department of my hometown public library. It's some actual library duties, too, I won't just be a page--I will be responsible for the two year old lapsit/storytime two mornings a week, and I'll be helping with the summer reading program. Hooray!
Last weekend was a particularly fun time, too. I went up to Chicago for one last visit with friends, and got to see a revival of Arcadia, by Tom Stoppard--my favorite play of all time. Then I headed over in the direction of Valpo to see more friends and go to a surprise wedding shower. (Hello, my dear, it was so exciting to see you!) Then I got to play with babies and go to Ikea before heading back.
When I went to make this post it asked if I wanted to restore a draft. I'd forgotten that I started to post this. It doesn't seem to have any links or graphics attached, but I believe the site...no, wait, I just looked it up and found the link (http://mindmedia.com/braintest.html). It's a personality test sort of thing that looks at the balance between the hemispheres of your brain. It was really quite remarkably accurate, so if you want to know more about me, look behind the cut! I am, by the way, still reading my flist, so even though I comment rarely I still see what you all have to say. I'm invisible, but not quite absent.
